A Wintry Ocean Beach Family Portrait Session
I’m not going to lie: San Diego can be surprisingly cold, especially at the beach. I say SURPRISINGLY because that is what it often does — it surprises you (or at least ME) whenever the temperature dips below 60 degrees. I am often ill prepared, wearing a thin fleece and barefoot at the beach for a portrait session. And it can feel CHILLY. But I love this weather for one big reason: the San Diego sky is amazing during our coldest months.
When I first spoke to the Banach family about their Ocean Beach portrait session, we had no idea the weather was going to be so chilly. It’s late November, but we had recently had a heat wave. It’s so hard to plan for sweaters when it’s 76 degrees out and sunny. But the day arrived, and all of us were shocked by the cold. The session was held in the late afternoon and by the time we left the beach, we were in complete shivers with bright red noses and stiff fingers. However, I was so happy this sweet family was willing to stick it out and roll with the punches. And their son! What an amazing little trooper he was.
